Tip 14: Exercise is essential

In a perfect world nobody would have to diet or exercise. But this isn't a perfect world.

Diet AND exercise- TOGETHER - are the keys to losing weight. One without the other is like only having half of the puzzle pieces in front of you- you can get part of the weight off, but not all of it.

Tip 14: Exercise is essential to both losing weight and maintaining your weight loss.

So here are some facts:
YES, you can lose weight without exercising.
YES, you can lose weight with only dietary changes.
NO, you can't lose a dramatic amount of weight with only dietary changes.
NO, you can't get a toned and tighter appearance without exercise.
YES, exercise IS part of a healthy lifestyle!
NO, 'exercise' doesn't mean hours sweating in the gym!

Exercise is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle, for many reasons. The most important reason you should exercise is for your health! Exercise lowers body fat, and the cardio part improves blood flow, lung capacity, and your heart health.

Exercise is a scary word for some people, who conjure up an image of themselves red in the face and sweat soaking through their shirts at the gym and hating every second of it. Exercise doesn't have to be torture!

Even something as small as making extra steps throughout the day can count towards your daily exercise (wear a pedometer to both measure and create challenges for yourself).

If you can't handle a full 60 minutes of exercise at first, build yourself up slowly. First do 10-15 minutes once a day, then twice a day. Then gradually build up to 20, 30, and 45 minutes. Make sure you challenge yourself enough while you exercise if you want to see the benefits of cardio at their maximum. If you're health-compromised, disabled, or unable to exercise at a pace that would be considered cardio (heart rate up and breathing heavier than normal), walking at a slower pace is an excellent way to get moving!

Think back to that equation in Tip #2, calories in must be less than calories out. If youre exercising (moving calories OUT), you can eat more (if you're maintaining), or see results faster!

Just a word of caution, depending on the length of exercise and the intensity you might have to raise your calorie intake in order for your body to cope with the work.
